Settlement talks drag in Seyller case

Attorneys are still working on a settlement in the lawsuit brought by Kane County Circuit Court Clerk Deb Seyller against the county board after it rejected a request for $560,000 in additional funds in fall 2010.

County attorney Ken Shepro and Seyller’s lawyer Dean Frieders met Friday morning before Kendall County Judge Tim McCann.

But instead of finalizing the settlement that the county board approved earlier this week, a new date of Sept. 14 was set to hopefully wrap things up.

Both lawyers earlier this week said they were hammering out some minor language issues. Friday they said that still was the case and declined any comment on whether the settlement was in danger of falling through.

Seyller sued the county board in fall 2010 after the board refused to grant her request for additional funding for 11 more employees. She argued the new employees she hired were needed to carry out the state-mandated duties in her office.

Since the lawsuit was filed, the matter had amassed at least $460,000 in attorney fees through June.
