Aurora man charged with assaulting woman in store

A 29-year-old Aurora man was charged with criminal sexual assault and several other felonies in connection with a July 20 attack inside a home improvement store on the city's far west side, authorities said Thursday.

Tyrone M. Young of the 800 block of Sard Avenue also was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery as well as misdemeanor public indecency in connection with the attack on the 2300 block of Orchard Road.

Police said they responded at 7:53 a.m. Wednesday to a call from a 35-year-old woman who said she was attacked while in the women's washroom.

She told investigators she was washing her hands when she was approached by a man wearing only boxer shorts who apparently had been hiding in a stall.

Police said the man grabbed the victim by the head and slammed her to the floor. When the victim screamed, another woman came out of a different stall and the man got dressed and left the bathroom.

Another man followed the suspect, later identified as Young, out of the store and watched him enter a dark green Pontiac. The man wrote down the license plate and gave it to police along with a detailed description of the suspect.

Police said they went to Young's home and arrested him.

The victim was bruised but declined treatment, authorities said.

Young's bail has been set at $500,000. His next court date in at 9 a.m. July 29 in Kane County court.
