Elk Grove doesn’t need fire consultant

I wanted to take a moment to say some very kind words regarding recently retired Elk Grove Village Fire Chief Dave Miller.

The positive regard that I have for his leadership abilities can all be linked together by one word and that word is “faith”. Under his leadership I had faith in the ability of the Elk Grove Village Fire Department to confidently respond to any situation that it may encounter.

Chief Miller and the Elk Grove Village Fire Department demonstrated every day that they are committed to a cause greater then themselves and this cause is the citizens of Elk Grove Village. I am a proponent of leadership by example and I have no doubt that Chief Miller was able to cultivate and inspire the non-positional leaders that served with him by his actions and tenure as chief.

What is of concern to me is that I believe that Chief Miller was an “engaged professional” who was continuously improving his own skill set while planning and preparing for the future needs of the EGV Fire Department.

I do believe that Chief Miller was engaged in dialogue and conversation with his department and other professionals in the field regarding what would be necessary to move the Elk Grove Village Fire Department from good to great and ensure that his department would continue to be able to confidently respond to any situation that may occur in the near and distant future.

I do not believe that an outside firm is needed because the continuous improvement model enacted and the relentless pursuit of excellence displayed by Chief Miller continues on with the men and women of the Elk Grove Fire Department that he led.
