Obama has kept the wrong promise

Susan Estrich’s recent column touting the promises that Obama has kept screamed of selected recall. She seems to have forgotten the promise regarding transparency (think stimulus and Obamacare).

Then there’s the one about no earmarks (over 8,000 in the stimulus bill alone) and the banishment of lobbyists (they’re swarming around DC like flies). As for getting out of Iran, shifting troops from Iraq to Afghanistan is not what most of us had in mind. And classifying 50,000 combat troops in Iraq as “advisers” and “trainers” is a joke.

He did keep one other promise that Estrich failed to mention, the promise of “change.” Too bad skyrocketing deficits and the war in Libya are probably not the kind of change those who voted for him were looking for.
