Elgin police: 18-year-old found shot dead

Elgin police continue to investigate a shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead late Monday night, according to officials.

At least one suspect was in custody as police continued to conduct interviews into Tuesday night, but no charges had been filed as of late Tuesday, said Elgin Police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

“We are looking into the shooting death of an 18-year-old teenager,” she said, but she could not provide any further details.

Olafson said police were called to the 800 block of Arthur Drive in Elgin about 10:50 p.m. Monday, after the 18-year-old was shot while outside on the block.

She said the shooting was not a drive-by and was not gang-related, and she could not confirm it was a homicide.

Little information was available Tuesday night, as the crime remained under investigation, but Olafson said there was not a threat to the public as police had suspects in custody.

Police did not release the identity of the victim.
