ComEd still trying to restore power to north region

Nearly 28,000 ComEd customers, most of them in the north suburbs, remain without power as of 6 a.m. this morning as a result of Tuesday's powerful storms that knocked down utility poles and power lines across the area.

Crews are deployed today working to restore power to the 23,500 customers still without power in the north region, officials said.

ComEd officials said crews are expected to restore power to the remaining customers by midnight tonight.

A total of 440,000 customers lost power in the wake of the storms that hit late Tuesday night. Those storms spawned two small tornadoes in Downers Grove and Mount Prospect, officials said,
