1975: Master of divinity degree from Athenaeum of Ohio/Mt. St. Mary’s seminary of the West in Cincinnati.
1977: Ordained a priest at St. Agnes Church by Archbishop Joseph L. Bernardin.
1977-82: Associate pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Anderson Township, Ohio.
1981-83: Director of the office of planning and research and assistant chancellor in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
1987: Doctorate of canon law and philosophy from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario.
1987-96: Cincinnati archdiocesan chancellor and director of department of executive services.
1996: Pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish in New Bremen, Ohio.
2002: Bishop of Steubenville in Ohio.
2005-11: Episcopal adviser for the Catholic Committee of Appalachia.
