Fire damages Lombard banquet hall’s canopy

A fire early Wednesday morning caused between $90,000 and $100,000 damage to Carlisle Banquets in Lombard, authorities said.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Lombard firefighters responded at 1:05 a.m. to a call from someone who saw flames at the banquet hall’s 435 E. Butterfield Road facility. Firefighters found the front and top of the outdoor canopy on fire and extinguished the blaze in 40 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik.

Firefighters from Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lisle-Woodridge, Oak Brook and York Center assisted Lombard crews at the scene.

Authorities suspect the fire either was weather-related or sparked by an electrical problem. The Lombard Fire Investigation Unit plans to continue its investigation throughout the day.
