The dollars and cents of Elgin towing policy
Updated 4/17/2011 8:42 AM
Tickets for people with four offenses bring Elgin more than $1.5 million since a new fee took effect Oct. 26, 2009. Here's how much Elgin has earned:
License suspended/revoked offenses: $526,017 paid
No valid driver's license offenses: $709,217 paid
DUI offenses: $273,400 paid
Car stereo violation offenses: $54,500 paid
Total collected: $1,577,733
ote: Before Oct. 26, 2009, Elgin fined people $250 for stereo violations but received little of that because of rising costs for Cook and Kane counties to prosecute the cases. Elgin's new adjudication system means the entire amount stays within the city.
