Antioch students to show art

The 24th annual Student Art Festival is scheduled for Friday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Antioch High School, 1133 Main St. The event is sponsored by the General Federation of Women's Clubs-Antioch Woman's Club.

Toni Leprich from Antioch High School, who is the coordinator of the festival, said the Student Art Festival is important because it gives students a chance “to showcase their work. That doesn't always happen unless there is a conference art show, which has a limit of 50 pieces.”

Leprich thinks there is a fair balance of work in the shows. Grade schools can see the continuum of the art program and the older students mentor the younger ones.

Ÿ Participating Antioch area schools are: Antioch High School, Antioch Upper Grade School, Emmons Grade School, Millburn Grade School, St. Peter's Grade School.

Ÿ Participating Lake Villa/Lindenhurst area schools are: Lakes High School, Palombi Middle School, B.J. Hooper Grade School, Martin Grade School, Pleviak Grade School and Thompson Grade School.

All entries are judged by professional judges. Ribbons are presented to first-, second- and third-place winners. A Best of Show ribbon and a monetary award are presented to a senior student and junior high student.

In addition, a Visitor's Choice Award and a monetary award are presented to a senior high student and a junior high student. Festival attendees vote for this award.

Each school is presented with a monetary award to be used for art supplies.

Complimentary refreshment table will be provided by the Antioch Woman's Club. The show is free. For details, call (847) 838-6103.
