Higgins wins Campton Clerk seat

Carolyn Higgins fended off a challenge from a write-in candidate to retain her post as Campton Hills Village Clerk.

Higgins finished with 858 votes Tuesday night, according to unofficial totals. Write-in results that were counted Wednesday morning showed challenger Anna Eirmann with 636 votes, Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham said.

“I hope the public and residents feel I’ve done a good job and try to stay impartial,” said Higgins, who will serve a four-year term. “I don’t take sides in any of the issues within the village.”

Eirmann received support in the campaign from Village President Patsy Smith, but it wasn’t enough.

Smith also beat a write-in challenge from Kristin LeBlanc.

While Smith had 1,068 votes, LeBlanc finished with 545 votes, according to unofficial results.

Cunningham’s office still is awaiting 299 absentee ballots, but only two of those are from the Campton Hills area, he said.

“As far as those two races are concerned, it’s a moot question,” Cunningham said. “There’s no way those results can be changed.”

Higgins said her goal has been to provide timely and equal access to information for all Campton Hills residents who request it, and she encouraged people to be more active in the village government.

“It helps to have people involved. Showing up for meetings is one way to start if you’re interested,” she said.
