Mansion flooded with 6 million gallons of water
A huge mansion in Burr Ridge has been inundated with about 6 million gallons of water.
Officials say the mansion, known as 'Villa Taj,' is uninhabitable, with extensive damage done to the first floor and the basement.
Community Development Director Doug Pollock says the total amount of water that flowed from burst pipes in second-floor bathrooms of the vacant home was enough to supply the village for three days. A real estate agent discovered the leak March 5.
Completed in 2009, the 45,000-square foot mansion, which has never been occupied, was once placed on the market for $25 million. Officials now estimate the home's value at $13 million.
Pollock says the mansion's owner, dentist Husam Aldairi, decided to move his family to a warmer climate during construction.
