Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?As an incumbent, I would like to continue to help our library give our citizens the best service possible, in the best space possible, given the economy. I have served almost two terms as a Villa Park Library Trustee and I would like to continue to serve. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.I am currently the President of the Library Board. As a group, the board has helped expand our facility by leasing space in a near by building, where some staff work and where some library lectures and classes ae held. We have improved the services and facility, while staying within budget.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?I have a library card for at least 25 years. I use it about one every 2 weeks.Space is usually an issue at libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.Space is definitely n issue at our library. We have freed up some space by leasing space in a near by building and moving some staff there. We will also contract with a library space planner to help us map a more efficient way to use available space. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change? The economy has prevented us from passing a bond issue that we would have used to build a new library. The board and the library Director have committed ourselves to improve services withing the existing budget. Libraries remain extremely relevant by providing materials (books, magazines DVD's CD's, etc) to patrons at no additional cost to them. ebooks are a new frontier that we are traveling.
