Police say Chicago crime rate continues to fall

Chicago Police say the crime rate has fallen every month for nearly years.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Police Superintendent Jody Weis says the drop in crime for October marks the 22nd consecutive month the crime rate fell.

Weis says the total number of crimes fell 3.7 percent compared to this time last year. The biggest drop was seen in violent crime, which fell 9.8 percent.

Weis also says that the city had 379 homicides committed through the end of October — that's nine fewer than last year.

At the same time, police say the number of motor vehicle thefts climbed in October by nearly 23 percent compared to the same month last year.
