In support of red-light cameras

In response to your Oct. 2 editorial “Smile for the camera proposal,” I would like to say that I agree that communities should use the red light cameras at stop lights.

I, however, do not see them as only a temporary solution. These cameras can help stop people from running red lights, and it will also work as evidence for accidents for hit and runs. Someone in my family got a ticket from one of these red light cameras, and I thought it was a very good idea because if there was another car coming someone could have gotten seriously injured.

We have not received a ticket from the red light cameras ever since. Of course, there is always the money issue. If it will cost too much money to put them at all stop lights, then we can follow in Kane County's footsteps and only put them at intersections with a history of crashes. Some roads have more traffic that others, so we should definitely put the cameras on those streets, such as Army Trail Road and Gary Avenue.

We could also take some of our tax money to pay for these cameras, since after all this is going to help Carol Stream stay safe. I hope to see some more of these red light cameras go up around my community because I am a teen driver, and some people out on the roads drive badly.

To keep these people from harming others we need to get cameras to catch them in the act. Hopefully other people in Carol Stream will agree with me and we can get enough money to put these up these cameras.
