Cubs 2011 schedule features 1st trip to Fenway since 1918 Series

CHICAGO - Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2011 regular season schedule. Chicago will open its 136th season Friday, April 1 at Wrigley Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Cubs will begin the 2011 campaign home for just the second time in the last 10 seasons, joining the 2008 campaign that began on March 31 vs. Milwaukee. The season-opening homestand features three games against Pittsburgh (April 1-3) and three games against Arizona April 4-6.

Chicago's first road trip features three series and nine games. After three games at the Milwaukee Brewers April 8-10, the road trip continues with three games in Houston (April 11-13) and three games in Colorado (April 15-17).

The 2011 schedule features five interleague series, including the traditional home-and-home sets against the Chicago White Sox (July 1-3 at Wrigley Field, June 20-22 at U.S. Cellular Field) as well as the club's first-ever regular season visit to play the Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston from May 20-22 (the Cubs have played regular season games against the Boston Braves from 1914-15 and World Series games against the Red Sox in 1918 at Fenway Park). The Cubs will host the New York Yankees June 17-19 and visit the Kansas City Royals June 24-26.

The Cubs 2011 tentative schedule features four three-series homestands and four three-city trips. The Cubs longest homestand is a 10-game, 11-day stay right after the All-Star Break from July 14-24 against Florida, Philadelphia and Houston.

The Cubs are scheduled to host five holiday games: April 24 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers on Easter Sunday, May 8 vs. the Cincinnati Reds on Mother's Day, May 30 vs. the Houston Astros on Memorial Day, June 19 vs. the New York Yankees on Father's Day and September 5 vs. the Cincinnati Reds on Labor Day. The Cubs are scheduled to be in Washington D.C. for Fourth of July.

The tentative 2011 Chicago Cubs regular season schedule is attached. Please note that the schedule is subject to change at any time.
