Attractive water views fill new Sycamore community

In the charming town of Sycamore, a new community of single-family homes sits on a 193 acres with six ponds and 15 acres of park space.

Shodeen Residential has kicked off sales and opened two furnished models at Reston Ponds, its newest community, which will feature 184 residences when complete. All homes include fully sodded homesites with shrub package, and many home sites offer scenic pond views.

"This community has so much to offer," said Liz Mallin, sales manager for Reston Ponds and a three-year resident of Sycamore. "Sycamore is a close-knit, family-friendly, small town, yet it offers all the perks of a bigger city especially with its location near DeKalb and the I-88 corridor."

Home to the well-known annual Pumpkin Festival, Sycamore offers a variety of attractions that include hot spots on State Street, Sycamore Sports Complex, an 18-hole public golf course, Sycamore Public Library, the Great Western Nature Trail and Shabbona Lake State Park.

At Reston Ponds, buyers can select from two ranch and six two-story home styles that offer three to four bedrooms, two to 21/2 baths, family room and two- or three-car garage. Homes feature many built-in standard inclusions.

Two fully furnished models by Kathleen Newhouse, owner of Park Place Interiors in Geneva, are open for visitors - the Geneva ranch and two-story Kaneville.

The Geneva is priced from $243,950 and features 2,045 square feet, three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage.

This home showcases a French country interior with a vintage feel to it - very open, airy and comfortable. With a palette of pale, soft yellow and a tranquil blue-green, this floor plan flows nicely from one room to another.

Upon entry, visitors have a view through the home and see a French bench in the foyer.

The separate dining room features a distressed wood table topped with a candle and floral centerpiece.

Dressed with gold walls, the oversized kitchen sparkles with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. The room includes a center island, pantry and corner sink overlooking the outdoors.

For lighter fare, family members can gather around the wood table in the nook between the kitchen and great room.

The great room features a stone fireplace with windows on either side decorated with embroidered linen draperies that lend a relaxed, cottage feel. A cathedral ceiling and two skylights allow plenty of light into the room while a cozy furniture arrangement complements the cottage feel.

In the front of the home, a study features honeymoon gold walls and is furnished with a desk and distressed wood bookcase. From here, one can access the bedrooms and bath without going through the living areas.

The bedrooms occupy a private spot on one side of the home. Topped with a deep tray ceiling, the master suite features a four-poster bed, bay window overlooking a pond and chair for reading. The bath includes an oversized walk-in closet, dual sinks, tub with window above, walk-in shower and private commode.

Near the full hall bath, the guest room features a bed with French country spread and wrought iron headboard with a canopy of draperies.

The Kaneville floor plan is priced from $239,950. This house features 2,300 square feet, three bedrooms, 21/2 baths and a two-car garage.

Inspired by the wine country, this home's interior shows deeper, darker colors, such as the maple leaf red accent walls in the family room and red paired with deep gold in the dining room and kitchen.

Flanking the foyer, the living and dining rooms extend a gracious welcome to guests. Soft green walls and a comfortable furniture arrangement in the living room invite conversation before dinner.

A deep tray ceiling and gold walls highlight the dining room, where the table is topped with a huge floral centerpiece.

The wine theme flows into the kitchen where a collage of different wines catches your eye. Black appliances and dark wood cabinetry topped with granite complement the rich palette. The angled counter features a breakfast bar and sink overlooking the living area. In the nook, a round wood table overlooks the deck and pond.

Two maple leaf red walls create interest in the family room, shown with the optional fireplace, area rug and an array of comfortable furnishings. Tucked in a rear corner of the room, the stairway with oak railing and spindles takes you to the second floor.

In the master suite, a large majestic bed with a tall headboard is a standout. Two windows allow homeowners views of the pond. The room also includes a sitting bench and small table for wine sipping.

A soft green in the master bath provides a soothing ambience. The room features dual sinks, tub and walk-in shower.

A boy's room features an entire wall done in a hand-painted mural with a football theme, while a little girl's room shows brighter, bolder colors with a feminine touch.
