Illinois groups get federal humanities grants

Federal humanities grants have been awarded to six Illinois groups.

The groups are sharing seven grants totaling more than $1.2 million from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin announced the grants that are going to organizations in the Chicago area and in central Illinois.

The University of Chicago is getting two grants, the Adler Planetarium is getting one and so are Loyola and Lewis universities.

In central Illinois, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Foundation and the University of Illinois are getting grants.

The University of Chicago is getting the most money with two grants totaling more than $556,000, including money for a project at the Oriental Institute.
