Florida man convicted in Illinois of child abuse in Asia

A 48-year-old Florida man has been convicted in Chicago of traveling to Thailand to have sex with young boys.

A federal jury convicted Charles Todd Stokes Friday after a four-day trial.

Stokes traveled from Chicago to Thailand in 2002 and lived there until his arrest in 2006.

Federal prosecutors say he engaged in sexual conduct with about 70 boys under the age of 15 while he lived overseas. Two of the boys, who were 11 at the time of the abuse, testified at his trial.

Prosecutors say they also found thousands of photos of Stokes engaging in sexual conduct with young boys.

Stokes once lived in the Miami area and taught in public schools there from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s.

He faces up to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on Aug. 26.
