British Columbia officials set up zip line in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO -- A zip line that lets riders soar hundreds of feet through the air along San Francisco's waterfront is attracting big crowds, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 600-foot line over Justin Herman Plaza opened Thursday and will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until April 18. It was set up by officials from British Columbia looking to lure tourists to the province this summer.
People waited hours Thursday to climb up a scaffold tower, get belted into a harness and cruise past the Ferry Building while looking off to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
The ride, modeled on a zip line set up in downtown Vancouver during the Olympics, is free. Officials hand out wristbands with a specific starting time to limit the wait.
