Kelly, Plaza power Prospect

Thomas Kelly blasted a grand slam and teammates Brian Bauer and Ed Gerdes also homered as host Prospect (4-3) roared to a 10-0 nonconference baseball victory over St. Viator (3-3) in five innings Friday.

Scott Plaza (1-1) went the distance and allowed 2 hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks as Prospect supported him with a dozen hits. Steve Dazzo was 2-for-3 with a triple, Miles Osei doubled, Kelly was 2-for-2 and Peter Bonahoom went 2-for-3.

Hersey 13, Highland Park 9: Hersey (7-0) continued its early-scoring trend with a 6-run first and jumped to a 9-0 lead after two innings before holding on for the win.

Sean Thompson went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double for the Huskies. Joe Perricone also homered and got the save for winner Steve Danielak (3-0).

Naperville Central 7, Hoffman 4: Mike Kiviranta went the distance and allowed only 2 earned runs but got the loss as Hoffman committed 5 errors. Kevin Tednes was 3-for-3 with 2 steals and an RBI as the Hawks scored 4 runs in the sixth to get within a run of the unbeaten Redhawks.

Carmel 3, Palatine 2: Byron Skinner homered for Palatine (5-6).

Glenbard North 10, Conant 6: Kyle Gizynski and Aaron Wright homered for Conant (4-1).

Lake Zurich 15, Meadows 2: Pat McGinn homered and drove in 2 runs for Rolling Meadows (2-6).
