New deputy Hoffman Estates mayor named

The Hoffman Estates board on Monday voted Trustee Gary Pilafas as the village's new deputy mayor, replacing Trustee Cary Collins.

Collins on Monday night was in Florida on vacation and will remain on the board for his term. He said over the weekend he wasn't pleased with some of the decisions in regards to the Sears Centre, which the village took ownership of earlier this year.

The deputy mayor's chief duty is to step in case the mayor cannot serve the duties of the offices. Pilafas' term as deputy mayor will last until April 20, 2011.

Trustee Raymond Kincaid voted against Pilafas' selection and said he preferred Trustee Karen Mills for post. Mills is the senior trustee on the board.
