Local cheerleaders to be honored

Two suburban high schools will honor state champion cheerleading squads with school assemblies this week.

Conant High School officials will hold a school assembly at 3 p.m. today to honor their competitive cheerleading team, which won the IHSA state championships in Bloomington.

During today's 30-minute assembly, the team will perform their championship routine before presenting the state championship trophy -- the school's first in competitive cheerleading -- to school administrators.

Similarly, Elk Grove High School will honor its co-ed team in an assembly Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. for their fifth consecutive state title in the co-ed division.
