Looking to chase away the winter blahs? If so you will want to attend the 27th annual Carol Stream Boy Scout Troop 32 Auction.

Good bargains and great laughs are on tap at this fundraiser, themed "Celebrate Mardi Gras," at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Perrottet-Nickerson American Legion Post 76, 570 S. Gary Ave., Carol Stream. The auction begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. led by auctioneers Sanford Lykins III, Stan Luboff and a guest auctioneer.

This adults-only evening will have a variety of items up for bid including golf packages, hotel packages, restaurant certificates, oil changes, household items - even the opportunity to be a firefighter for a day with members of the Carol Stream Fire Protection District. Also, as he has so generously done for years, Carol Stream lawyer Bob McNees has donated his services to write a will for the highest bidder.

Another highlight will be the return of the White Elephant Sale where you can find a variety of gently used household items. Through the years I have purchased antiques, a vacuum, crystal, a beautiful vase and other treasures.

Admission is free and there will be complimentary snacks and a cash bar featuring authentic New Orleans Bourbon Street drinks.

I've attended most of the auctions and just can't help but chuckle when I look back at all the shenanigans that have gone on.

"You never know what is going to happen at the auction," said Mary Finnstrom, auction chairwoman. "Sometimes the auctioneers will even model items donated from Lovers' Lane."

It's a fun evening, with good deals and a way to support the Scouts in the process. Proceeds will help with the troop's financial obligations and their summer camp trip.

Donations will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the legion hall on the day of the auction. Items must be clean, working and in good condition. The donor is responsible for disposing of any items not accepted. Clothing will not be accepted.
