Details of Wheeling village manager's deal

On Dec. 21, Wheeling trustees announced that Jon Sfondilis was officially Wheeling's village manager and basically in charge of the day-to-day operations of the village. A few weeks later, the board approved his contract. Here are a few excerpts:

• Sfondilis has an annual salary of $136,000

• He gets a $500 per month vehicle allowance.

• Sfondilis lives in Elgin and is not required to move to Wheeling. If he does decide to move, he'll get up to $10,000 in relocation expenses.

Sfondilis began his Wheeling career as summer help 17 years ago, then worked as a laborer with the public works department and was eventually promoted to the position of assistant public works director before becoming assistant village manager in March of 2007.

Sfondilis had been serving as acting village manager since Sept. 29.
