No new trial for Degorski
James Degorski, 37, will have to resign himself to the guilty verdict a Cook County jury delivered on Sept. 29 for his part in the 1993 slayings of seven workers at a Palatine Brown's Chicken & Pasta restaurant.
A Cook County Circuit Court judge denied Degorski's request for a new trial Thursday, which means the verdict stands, as does Degorski's sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Degorski's co-defendant Juan Luna was convicted of seven counts of first-degree murder in 2007. He was also sentenced to life in prison.
Degorski's attorneys say they will appeal the decision.
