Officers honored for DUI arrests

Several officers with the Buffalo Grove police were honored in the annual awards given by the Illinois Department of Transportation for arresting impaired drivers.

Since the program started in 2001, Crystal Bowen has arrested 25 drivers, Daniel Dimler 50, Kurt Lowenberg has arrested 50, Anthony Turano has arrested 50, Janet Freeman has arrested 75, Gregory Hill has arrested 75, Paul Jamil has arrested 200 and David Halverson has arrested a total of 300.

Jamil is one of only 38 officers in the state who can claim 200 arrests, and Halverson is one of 17 in Illinois at his level.

Sgt. Scott Kristiansen, who is with the Buffalo Grove traffic unit, said the awards should also serve as a reminder to drivers during the holiday season, who are dealing with snow along with other factors if they choose to drive while impaired.
