Buffalo Grove police raise special funds

The Buffalo Grove police department surpassed even their own best work this year when Chief Steve Balinski presented a check for $40,000 to Special Olympics Illinois Monday night.

The department has a long history of raising funds for the group, including participation in events such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Polar Plunge and a summer barbecue throughout the year.

Balinski was also given an award from Special Olympics Illinois or the 24 years the department has raised money for the cause.

"This is a great example of the dedication our department has to the community," Village President Elliott Hartstein said.

Trustee Brian Rubin, whose son is a Special Olympics athlete, fought back emotion as he thanked the department for its commitment.
