Bond set for 2nd man in Link petition forgery case

Bond was set at $5,000 Friday for the second man accused of forging signatures on nominating petitions for State Sen. Terry Link.

Jerry Knight, 40, of Zion, appeared before Associate Judge Raymond Collins after surrendering earlier this week to police in St. Paul, Minn.

Knight and Kenneth Davison,50, of Waukegan, are charged with perjury and forgery for allegedly falsifying information on petitions to place Link's name on the February ballot.

Davison surrendered last week and was released after posting $500 in cash.

Neither Link nor former Democratic party vice-chairman Pete Couvall, who hired the pair to circulate candidate petitions, have been accused of any wrongdoing in the case.

Knight and Davison face up to five years in prison if convicted, but would also be eligible for probation.

They are scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 17.
