Golf classic puts business in the great outdoors

What better way to do business than in the great outdoors, especially on a golf course.

That's what makes the Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce's annual Golf Classic a must-attend event for business professionals.

"You wouldn't think business is necessarily done on the golf course, but it definitely is," said Luanne Triolo, chamber executive director.

With this great opportunity for networking, it's no wonder that 150 golfers took to the greens last year. And it is anticipated that the 19th annual event will attract as many, if not more, beginning at 10:30 a.m. July 29 at Klein Creek Golf Club, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road, Winfield.

"Interacting with the volunteers and golfers is a wonderful opportunity to build relationships," Triolo added.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch at 11 a.m. Then it is on to the best-ball scramble with a noon shotgun start.

The Golf Classic is the biggest annual chamber fundraiser with even opportunities for nongolfers to get their business name out there while supporting the chamber. This can be done through sponsorships, raffle donations or volunteering to work throughout the day. For details, just call Triolo at (630) 665-3325.

Sponsors will be recognized on the chamber's Web site, on signs at the event and in the event program. Additionally, silver or higher level sponsor companies will have an opportunity to set up a table at a hole and personally greet golfers. Sponsorship levels are $125, $250, $350, $500 and $1,500 for premier sponsorships.

Although the fundraiser proceeds go into the chamber's general fund, some of the money supports various philanthropies within Carol Stream, including the village's Summer Concerts in the Center and $5,000 in scholarships awarded this past school year to area students.

"We hope to do even more next year," said Triolo.

There is no registration deadline, however, spots are limited. So it is advisable to sign up as soon as possible. The fee is $190 for golf, lunch and dinner; or $160 for golf and lunch only. Dinner only will cost $45.

Dinner will be served in the air-conditioned tent at Kline Creek where there will be many raffles with exciting prizes, including a "Resort Getaway Gift Certificate." Additionally, Moments in Time Photography will provide photos for all to take with them. Giving credit where credit is due, Triolo said, "John Wheeler is a fantastic and well-seasoned golf committee chairman," adding that he has done a great job in putting together such a successful event.
