Boys golf: Josephson leads Vernon Hills to regional championshipSep 30, 2021 10:33 AM - Being DJ seems like a common name in the golf world and it's a great nickname for Dylan Josephson, the leader for Vernon Hills' boys team. The Cougars' senior has had a storied season and has been a medalist in a number of meets this season. He has now captured the Class 2A regional championship with a 2-over par 74, but he needed a playoff hole to get past Grayslake Central's Thomas Bolin. Josephson had a par to Bolin's bogey on the extra hole at White Deer Run Golf Course in Vernon Hills on Wednesday.

Sweet homecoming, 'Chicago': Glenbrook South's annual parade returns with a local themeSep 30, 2021 9:49 AM - Glenbrook South High School homecoming queen Lily Davis gave parade spectators a royal wave from the back of a vintage Ford Thunderbird convertible on a delightful sunny morning Saturday. Last year, the school hosted a stationary homecoming event on campus due to COVID-19. Since then, pandemic restrictions have eased somewhat, particularly for outdoor events, so the parade returned to a traditional route, eastward along Glenview Road, between Shermer Road and Jackman Park, in downtown Glenview.

Niles West and Evanston competed at the meet as well.

Girls volleyball: Maine West handles Maine EastSep 29, 2021 9:26 PM - Maine West junior Daria Szczepura, who began the season as a defensive specialist, played all-around for the first time on Monday night when the Warriors' girls volleyball team defeated Niles North. on Wednesday night as Szczepura played her all-around role to the hilt, collecting 4 kills, 6 digs and serving her longest run of the season to break open the first set. And add a setting assist she made on senior Viviana's Ramirez's match-high seventh kill that ended the Central Suburban North contest in favor of the Warriors 25-14, 25-11 over Maine East in Park Ridge.

Boys golf: Buffalo Grove's Beerheide, Prospect champs at regionalSep 29, 2021 7:37 PM - Buffalo Grove golfer Ryan Beerheide excelled at Wednesday's IHSA Class 3A golf regional, winning medalist honors by shooting a 74. The senior's championship effort, however, came as no surprise to Bison coach Peter Duffer, who said Beerheide has put in "years of hard work" to get to this point.
