High winds cut power to more than 5,000 customers in north suburbs
About 5,200 customers are without power this morning after heavy winds knocked down power lines following 50 mph wind gusts, officials said.
The wind advisory is in effect until 7 a.m., officials said. The speeds of the wind will range from 25 m.p.h. to 35 m.p.h. with gusts up to 50 m.p.h. at times, weather service officials said.
Commonwealth Edison said high winds overnight downed power lines for 5,200 of its customers, with about 3,400 of those in the northern suburbs.
The good news, though, seems to be the area did dry out before temperatures plummeted below freezing overnight.
Officials were braced to handle icy road conditions in the morning, but those black ice issues never seemed to surface.
High temperatures Wednesday will come in at about 30 degrees before temperatures plummet to about 15 degrees Wednesday night.
