Barrington back in title game

Barrington will play for the championship of its own Spring Fling softball tourney for the fourth time in five years after a 2-0 victory over Warren in Tuesday's semifinals at the Fields of Dreams.

All-area senior Kim Cygan (9 strikeouts, 1 walks) threw a 3-hitter for her second straight win, while sophomore Kiersten Tinkoff had an RBI double and freshman Kelsey Kazmier added an RBI single for the Fillies.

Barrington will face Zion-Benton (2-0) for the title today at 4:30 p.m.

Maine West 5, Hersey 3: All-area pitcher Emily Ott earned her first win of the season by tossing a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks as the Warriors evened their record at 1-1 in the Spring Fling and will face Deerfield today at 4:30 p.m. for fifth place.

Warriors senior Kaleigh McGing went 2-for-3, while teammates Angela Cruz, Margo Ehorn and Jenna Depa each had 1 hit.

Katherine Kusner's RBI groundout brought home the Warriors' first run in the second inning.

They added 2 more in the third on sacrifice fly by McGing (Angela Cruz scored) and a bases-loaded walk to Kelsey Hargesheimer (Allisan Ellwood scored).

The Huskies tied the game with 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Maine West won the game in the top of the seventh, scoring twice on passed balls.

Hersey (0-2) will play Glenbrook North for seventh place today at 4:30 p.m.

Buffalo Grove 3, Glenbrook South 2: Sophomore ace Andrea DiPrima (3-for-3, 2 runs) played a key role for the Bison in their season opener.

She tossed a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks and went 3-for-3 with a double and scored 2 runs.

Danni Shapiro also had an RBI single for the Bison in the bottom of the fifth which proved to be the decisive run.

Senior Meg Miller, who underwent knee surgery in September and was cleared to play last week, went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Prairie Ridge 2, Palatine 0: The Wolves scored both runs in the first inning as Pirates senior Chrissy Roto struck out five and did not walk batter in Crystal Lake.

"She settled down after the first inning and did a nice job," said Palatine coach Jeff Manz. "Chrissy is in her third varsity season and we are looking for her to be a leader."

Katie Nawrot and Alyx Ballenger had the 2 hits for the Pirates.
