Man guilty of child sex abuse in Aurora
A former Aurora man pleaded guilty Monday in Kane County Circuit Court to sexually abusing a child more than a decade ago.
John Ardelean Jr., 56, was sentenced to five years in prison under the terms of a plea deal accepted by Judge Thomas E. Mueller.
Prosecutors said Ardelean had sexual contact with a child younger than 13 while he lived in Aurora in 1993 and 1994. The victim reported the abuse to relatives years later, after Ardelean moved to Joplin, Mo. He was charged in 2006.
By statute, Ardelean must serve at least half of the five-year sentence. He was given credit for fewer than 40 days served in Illinois and Missouri, the state's attorney's office said.
