Driver shot by Waukegan police

A man is in critical condition after being shot in the cheek during a police pursuit in Waukegan early Sunday. Police were called about 1 a.m. to the 800 block of Lenox Street for a report of a loud disturbance. When police arrived, an SUV parked in the street drove forward and hit an officer's vehicle, police said. The officer fired one shot at the SUV as it continued to move. Police pursued the vehicle through the city until it hit a police car head-on at Westmoreland Street and Garden Place. Police then arrested the occupants of the SUV. The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the left cheek and was taken to Vista Medical Center East. He later was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. No one else was injured. Police on Monday would not release the names of those arrested.
