Raising state taxes will worsen economy

Pat Quinn's proposed state income tax hike is exactly what Illinois doesn't need. Even a not-so-bright economist will tell you that raising taxes in a recession is bad economic policy, and could lead us into a depression. How about cutting state employees, their wages and their benefits for starters? Also, cut back on services where possible. Isn't it interesting that an illegal immigrant can con the state out of over $500,000 in medical services before being discovered? The notion of providing a $6,000 per person deduction benefits large households, who are primary consumers of resources rather than providers. With high unemployment, crowded schools and taxed medical facilities, should we really be encouraging people to have more children and rewarding those that do? Dick Durbin sure likes the idea of higher taxes, but why didn't he say that before the last election rather than waiting until now? Illinois already has sky-high property taxes, gasoline taxes, utility taxes, etc. It's time to stop this insanity.
