Immanuel Lutheran girls are new national champs

Immanuel Lutheran School in Palatine can add another national title to its record books.

The Bobcat basketball team won the 2009 Girls' Grade School Lutheran National Championship Sunday night, beating Salem Lutheran School from Orange, Ca.

The girls entered the tournament in Valparaiso, Ind., as Illinois state champs and heavily favored.

Along the way to the national title, they also beat teams this weekend from Idaho, Missouri and two from Wisconsin.

Arlington Heights' St. Peter Lutheran School beat a Texas team in the first round but lost to the Orange, Ca., team in the second.

Lombard's St. John's Lutheran School lost to a Las Vegas team in Round 1.
