Thanks to Dundee leaders for open space

Regardless of the outcome of the Republican primary, Sue Harney and the rest of the Dundee Township board should be commended for their accomplishments in expanding open space in our community, which has had overwhelming public support by virtue of the referendums that passed.

The premise of open space is to keep water and air clean, provide natural flood protection, reduce urban sprawl and traffic congestion, provide habitat for flora and fauna, and help maintain property tax caps by controlling residential development.

The board has done a nice job of leveraging funds as cost share to secure grants from other government agencies; thus, accomplishing more for our local area.

If water is the next oil, then conserving and improving this resource should be a given goal. It should be clear that good, clean, non-leaded water is what we want coming out of our faucets.

Our planet was created with watersheds that clean the water and hold overflow water during huge rain storms. These are the reasons why improvements to Jelke Creek make good sense.

The money that will be spent goes toward labor and materials; thus, putting good people to work. No bird will fly away with one cent in its talon or beak.
