Time for Metzger to step down
We need to forgive the person Mark Metzger for his apparent fury in the moment and his vulgar e-mail mistake, as we ourselves would ask to be forgiven for our own human faults.
At the very same time we must recognize that this is completely unacceptable leadership behavior that we cannot and will not tolerate, and we must call for his resignation from the Indian Prairie Unit District 204 board.
I believe that this latest incident is indicative of a culture and mentality within our leadership. The leadership acts as though their own thoughts and viewpoints regarding the needs of the school district are so much more important that it justifies ignoring or even disparaging the vital needs of one child, one family, one neighborhood, or other low-incidence population/minority.
We have seen caring families try to offer different ideas to help our school district, but leadership seems to take these kinds of alternative thoughts as threats of dissension. This is blindness in power and deafness in thinking that we must change today.
My family and I are so very grateful that our teachers and principals have always tried to do their best to help our students in the face of weak or absent support from the school district leadership. We have been blessed to have the help of dedicated and professional staff inside our schools. We cannot thank them enough for their efforts.
We believe it is the moral and ethical responsibility of our community to serve all students and to come to the aid of those students who need our help the most. Thank you, Mr. Metzger, for the many years and countless hours of volunteer service you have given. It is now time for you to step down.
