Middle school gets 'Grimm' March 20-21

Lake Zurich Middle School South will stage a comedic retelling of classic fairy tales this weekend.

Live performances of "The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon" are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at the school, 435 W. Cuba Road.

The show, written by Texas playwright Don Zolidis, centers on two narrators who try to combine all 209 Grimm fairy tales into one complicated story line.

The well-known stories of Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, the Frog Prince, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood are among those featured in the show. But it also includes lesser-known Grimm characters such as Lean Lisa and the Girl Without Hands.

The "Spectaculathon" has been performed at schools across the country. Teacher Jennifer Fox Eberle will direct the Lake Zurich production.

Tickets will be available at the door. They're $8 for adults and $6 for children.

In addition to staging the show, the "Spectaculathon's" cast and crew have made quilts out of fabric scraps that they'll be donating to a Pennsylvania charity group called Quilts for Kids. For more about that effort, visit quiltsforkids.org.
