Accused horse owner gives up 12 animals

A McHenry County woman accused of mistreating several horses on two Woodstock-area properties agreed Tuesday to surrender ownership a dozen horses to county animal control officials. Jeannine Lawler-Benz, 43, will also pay the county about $1,200 to care for three other horses she is still seeking possession of, under a court order. Lawler-Benz faces six misdemeanor charges alleging she her negligence endangered the lives of several horses she either owned or looked after. She has denied the allegations. Officials hope to put the relinquished horses up for adoption.

School seeks dress donations

The Dundee-Crown High School Beta Club is seeking donations of new or gently used formal wear for the club's annual "Kelly's Kollection" prom store. The store sells discounted formal wear to Dundee-Crown students to ensure prom is affordable for all students. No item will be sold for more than $20. The store will be open for students on April 1 through April 3, and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 4. Donations can be dropped off at the school's counseling office through March 31. Call (847) 426-1321.

Calling all future education majors

High school senior girls who attend public or private high schools in the Elgin Area School District U-46 and Community Unit District 300 attendance areas are eligible for grant money from the Gamma Xi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society if they plan to work in education.
