White Sox charities auction gets under way on Monday

The Chicago White Sox have settled on the items that will be auctioned for White Sox Charities via whitesox.com, starting Monday.

Six items will be available to fans during the third online auction of the year, including the cap worn by White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen as a tribute to the slain Oakland police officers who were tragically killed in the line of duty last week. Guillen inscribed "OPD," for Oakland Police Department, on the front of the cap in silver marker and wore it during last Sunday's spring training game. The winning bid also will receive an autographed Guillen baseball and photo.

Proceeds from the winning bid will go to a fund for the officers' families, the Oakland Police Officer's Association. Bids can be placed by visiting whitesox.com and clicking on the "Auction" link on the website.

The auction closes April 12 at 11:59 p.m.

The following items also are available in this auction:

• Honorary Bat boy/girl for the June 26 Cubs/Sox game; includes four Lower Box tickets, brunch in the Bard's Room. ($1,500 minimum)

• Derrick Rose autographed baseball. ($100 minimum)

• Greg Walker game-worn, autographed "Half-Way to St. Pat's Day" jersey (with World Series patch). ( $250 minimum)

• Josh Fields game-used, autographed bat. ($250 minimum)

• Alexei Ramirez game-worn, autographed camouflage jersey & pants. ($300 minimum)

The White Sox raised more than $45,000 for Chicago White Sox Charities through online auctions during 2008 and more than $265,000 since the start of auctions in 2003.
