Carol Stream names deputy
Lt. Jerry O'Brien has been named Carol Stream's deputy police chief. The 23-year department veteran will start his new job March 16 and assist with the management of the department. He started as a police officer in 1985, was promoted to sergeant in 1995 and lieutenant in 2003. He has a master's degree in criminal social justice from Lewis University in 2000 and graduated from the FBI's law enforcement executive development program. The deputy spot opened when Kevin Orr was promoted to chief.
Homeowner workshop
The DuPage Homeownership Center will sponsor a free workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. March 28 for residents to get information on the Making Home Affordable prevention initiatives and other strategies to help save their homes. The workshop will be at the Outreach Community Center, 345 S. President St., Carol Stream. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Oak Brook leader steps down
Oak Brook's director of information services and purchasing, Bruce Kapff, is stepping down after 29 years as part of an early retirement incentive program offered by the village. His last day in the job will be March 31. Kapff joined the village in 1980 as assistant village manager and served in numerous administrative roles.
