Guilty verdict in 2006 shooting of Chicago girl

A jury has convicted a 22-year-old Chicago man for gunning down and killing a 10-year-old girl in 2006 as she celebrated at her birthday party.

Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton says jurors convicted Moses Phillips of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Siretha White, which shocked the South Side community of Englewood.

Prosecutors say Phillips targeted men sitting on a porch. But as he drove up and shot at them, he ended up hitting Siretha in the head as she tried to take cover from the hail of bullets.

At trial, defense attorneys said Phillips wasn't the shooter.

Simonton says Phillips faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is set for April 3.
