Elgin man accused of abusing girl in 2003
An investigation by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center led to the weekend arrest of a 45-year-old Elgin man on charges he molested a six-year-old girl in 2003.
Artemio Banderas, of the 200 block of Seneca Street, faces four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to court documents. Each is a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison.
"The four charges are four separate and distinct acts that occurred on or about Jan. 1, 2003," said Assistant Kane County State's Attorney Sam Partida.
"The victim was an acquaintance of Banderas."
Banderas has no prior criminal history in Kane County, court records show.
His bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000 at a hearing Saturday. He was unable to post bond and remains at the Kane County jail.
His next court date is on March 12 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
