Train strikes, kills man in Palatine

A 20-year-old McHenry man was killed by a Metra train near Palatine, delaying trains along Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line.

The man was struck by the train west of the intersection of Northwest Highway and Baldwin Road in Palatine at about 1:30 p.m., police officials said.

Police said the man walked on to the tracks just before the train passed. The incident remains under investigation.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m. at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, police said.
