FTC sues Dish Network over do not call complaints

Satellite TV provider Dish Network is being sued for alleged violations of the national Do Not Call Registry.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is joining the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and several other states in the lawsuit.

It alleges that the company has made thousands of phone calls to people on the Do Not Call list. The FTC contends Dish Network is the biggest violator to date, based on the number of complaints to the agency.

Madigan says the Do Not Call laws are an important protection for consumers and businesses should comply. The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction to force Dish Network to monitor its telemarketers and comply with the laws.

Dish Network hasn't returned calls seeking comment.
