Now that's neighborly: Man to give kidney to girl down the street
SWANSEA -- A retired Air Force colonel is taking neighborly to a new level.
Fifty-five-year-old Mike Cole on Friday will donate one of his kidneys to 10-year-old Sabrina Voss, who lives on the same cul-de-sac in the southwestern Illinois community of Swansea.
Sabrina has been on dialysis for a year because of kidney failure.
Cole says deciding to give up one of this kidneys was the right thing to do for the fourth-grader from Swansea's Wolf Branch Elementary School.
Cole says he's never drank or smoked, his bad cholesterol is what he calls "ridiculously low," and he does 50 push-ups every morning and jogs every other day.
