Arson suspected in Kaneville Twp. fire

Authorities are investigating an apparent arson fire that destroyed a vacant house Wednesday in unincorporated Kaneville Township.

Firefighters were called to the 2S400 block of Owens Road about 10:30 p.m. and found the house engulfed, the Kane County sheriff's office said. No injuries were reported.

Police said the residence had been abandoned several years ago and was in "extreme disrepair." Most recently, it has been used for firefighter training.

According to a sheriff's report, fire investigators suspect arson. The report noted there were no working utilities connected to the house, and the property owner reported that someone had "messed with" an electrical switch several weeks ago.

The Kaneville Fire Department, a volunteer agency, could not be reached for comment.
