Suburban man faces charges once crash injuries heal

PALOS PARK -- Cook County authorities say a Palos Township man hospitalized over the weekend with auto crash injuries will have some real legal problems when he is released.

Authorities say the first vehicle 46-year-old Michael Kessen hit with his Mercedes convertible Thursday night was a Palos Park police car. And he compounded his problems by striking five other vehicles while attempting to escape the scene of that first rear-end accident.

Charges filed against Kessen include felony drunken driving; driving on a revoked driving license; no insurance; leaving the scene of an injury accident; reckless driving; and making an improper U-turn.

And police say it was 30 degrees at the time of the accidents, and Kessen was driving with the top down.
